I have been volunteering with DISCO's Woodlawn Writers Corps for several months, and I believe in their mission. Giving students a creative outlet and a space to talk about new ways of seeing their world -- that's a magical thing.
I am raising money in support of DISCO's largest fundraiser, the Epic Read-a-Thon, a 24-hour non-stop reading event this coming March 1 - 2. Every donation goes to funding the Woodlawn Writers Corps programming.
The Woodlawn Writers Corps is a collective of more than 700 students at Avondale Elementary, Oliver Elementary, and Putnam Middle School. Every week during the school year, volunteers from the Desert Island Supply Co. facilitate in-school creative writing workshops for Corps members.
